Over the last two decades, enterprise wireless LAN has evolved from a budding & nice to have technology to one that is pervasive and mission critical. The evolution in speeds of wireless LAN and the explosion of devices connecting to it has been dramatic. We will take a look at the path we have taken and the opportunities and challenges before us to continue to address the challenges we face today and expect in the future. This includes the evolution of enterprise wireless architectures that are seamless and need to be increasingly self diagnosing and self healing to address the ever increasing network complexity and shrinking IT resources. Wireless LAN will likely see the advent of 5G in the enterprise for specific use cases and we will explore the opportunities for the evolution of future enterprise deployments where co-existence will be important.

In this talk, we will start with global and India-centric view of the telecom market trends and use case adaptions thereof. It will be followed by an outline of the technology landscape – both current and future. We will then try to provide some use case examples where business has started adopting these technologies, e.g. in Enterprise networks, Use of AI/ML in networks, Low latency Robotics and Device Edge computing. Finally we will conclude with a discussion on beyond 5G & towards 6G where we will explore futuristic technologies like Metamaterial based antenna beamforming, Intelligent Reflecting Surfaces and Fusion of Radar systems with Communication systems.

Arpan Pal has more than 29 years of experience in the area of Intelligent Sensing, Signal Processing &AI, Edge Computing and Affective Computing. Currently, as Chief Scientist and Research Area Head, Embedded Devices and Intelligent Systems, TCS Research, he is working in the areas of Connected Health, Smart Manufacturing and Remote Sensing.

He is on the editorial board of notable journals like ACM Transactions on Embedded Systems, Springer Nature Journal on Computer Science and is on the TPC of notable conferences like ICASSP and EUSIPCO.
