Peeyush Ranjan is CTO/Head of Engineering at Flipkart, has been with Google for almost 9 years and was the Managing Director of Google India R&D for a couple of years. He has worked on Search, Mobile (Android, Motorola) and has also led Google's Enterprise related engineering efforts worldwide. Peeyush has degrees in computer science from Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kharagpur, and Purdue University, and an MBA from the University of Washington.



In this talk, we will look at a selection of problems from the e-commerce space especially in India. We will take a breadth-first view of data center design, progressive mobile applications and trust/safety, all of which are applicable to the larger area of consumer internet too. The talk will cover how we have scaled the biggest, online market place in the country, as evident from our flagship, annual flash-sale event - TBBD, tackling multiple business/technical challenges as above.

Mr Baveja holds a B.Tech from IIT Delhi and two post graduate degrees from England, one in Electrical Engineering from London University and another in Public Management from Birmingham University, UK.

He is presently working as Senior Director & Group Coordinator in Department of Electronics and IT, Ministry of Communications & IT, Government of India. He has about 33 years of work experience and out of this he has been working in government for last 28 years.

At DeitY, his current responsibilities include spearheading R&D in ICT sector through favourable policy measures and by research grants. His job involves promoting growth of indigenous Convergence, Communication, Broadband Networks and Strategic Electronics. He has been responsible for setting up various Centres of Excellences of DeitY throughout the country such as C-DAC, SAMEER, ER&DCs, CEDTs and CEWiT.

He has represented the DeitY at various International forums, such as the World Summit on Information Society meetings at Geneva. He has been speaker on sessions in bridging the digital divide at South Korea and Japan. He has participated chaired sessions on ICT meetings at SAARC countries. He has coordinated international programmes of Indo-German, UNDP, Indo-Swiss, Indo-US, Indo-Ireland, Indo-Dutch and Israel. He has participated in 3GPP standards meetings in USA and Republic of Czechoslovak.

Prior to joining DeitY in 1986, he has worked in Bharat Electronics Ltd for 3 years at Ghaziabad Unit near Delhi and prior to this for 2 years in the UK with a test software company.

He is an IEEE Member, ISO certified lead assessor, a Licensed Ham operator and a fellow member of IETE.
